    Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know how the pre-service early childhood teachers recognize the preschool`s classroom through metaphorical analysis. As a result, three categories were identified: public spaces, private spaces, the third space. The public spaces were divided into safety needs, self-expression needs, community needs and classroom environment composition needs. The private spaces divided into rest needs, growth needs and promoting happiness needs. The third space was divided into play needs. The findings of the study suggested the pre-service early childhood teachers try to re-construct their classroom as social, cultural and educational spaces to promote “Gesselligkeit” and teacher educators will support them to practice. And the teacher educators will need to strive to lead pre-service early childhood teachers by communicating with an open mind and working together collaboratively.
